A quick post today on the importance of choosing your wedding photographer well. There was a recent article in The Sun newspaper about a devastated couple who booked a budget photographer and then didn’t like any of the images produced afterwards. There were blurry images, head cut off, hands in front of faces, not a single decent image.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4895713/Couple-sue-snapper-for-big-day-woe.html

Now obviously budget is an important factor hen choosing any of your wedding suppliers but what is the point of spending £500 on a wedding photographer that produced nothing of value afterwards. It is £500 wasted.

Whoever you decide to use and whatever the cost, ALWAYS research their work both online and in print. ALWAYS ask to see full albums so you can judge the quality of a whole wedding, and not just the “best bits”, ALWAYS meet your photographer so they know what you want and don’t forget, after the cake is eaten and the dress is in the attic, the photographs are the lasting reminder of your day.

You really do get what you pay for, so choose wisely

We would love to be part of your special day so please get in touch if you would like a personalised quote on your wedding photography needs.

It’s a nice day for a white wedding…It’s a nice day to start again…..

Si white right for you? Are you opting for ivory, Spanish ivory, cream, off white, or something a bit bolder? Not sure where to start, well let’s go and get some advice off someone who sees her fair share of wedding dresses: Jacqueline Rose of Colshaw Hall (Weddings in Cheshire at Colshaw Hall). So let’s get right to it and see if white is right or more of a blight…..

Young girls’ fantasies about their ideal wedding commonly include a white gown. Although white has long been a traditional colour of the wedding dress, symbolising purity and innocence of girlhood, this had not always been the case.

The white trend was firstly initiated by Queen Victoria in 1840 and has remained ever since. Prior to the Victorian Era, brides in the western culture wore dresses in any colour. Back then, colourful bridal gowns showcased yellow, green, brown, blue and black hues symbolising social status, fertility or maturity. Furthermore, originally did the colour blue stand for purity and faithfulness, and was therefore the most chosen colour, as opposed to white which showed that the bride comes from a poorer background. However, green and purple were especially common in medieval times, as they were associated with royalty.

Recently, designers rediscovered coloured bridal gowns, and increasingly show colourful creations on bridal fashion shows all over the world. In the assumption that such shows and even celebs such as Jessica Biel who married Justin Timberlake in a white-pink designer wedding dress may be inspiring for upcoming brides.

The right dress for your Skin Tone

Nowadays, a huge array of colour shades is available ranging from ivory, champagne, silver, gold, browns and pastels, towards bolder colours, patterns and accents. Unexpected the trends on the bridal gown market and old beliefs, a bride should pick the dress which flatter her skin and hair colour. In brief it must be followed the rule that the paler the skin tone, the warmer the dress colour should be.

Fair Skin:

Women with fair skin can be divided into three different groups. Those with very pale skin with little or no freckles and no ability to become tanned should chose dresses of warm whites (e.g. ivory, oyster-coloured, light brown tones). In contrast, white and yellow tones do not match this skin type.

Women with light skin and brown, blonde or darker hair build the second group. As their skin is a bit darker and they are able to tan, gold dresses suit blondes and brunettes at best. Only brides with darker hair in that group can go for pure white.

Women with an ‘English rose’ complexion (freckles, rosy skin and often red or strawberry blonde hair) are dressed ideally with a cream, champagne, gold or off-white wedding dress. Clearly, pink dresses should be avoided by brides showing this skin complexion.

Medium Skin:

Medium skin usually tans well and rarely burns whilst being exposed to sun light. Most medium skinned women show an olive undertone and have dark hair. Therefore pure whites with pink and creamy undertones look good on them.

Whilst ivory dresses suit Asian women, brides with pale yellow-brown skin look good in off-white hue.

Medium skinned with a pink or blue skin tone are on the right track choosing a dress displaying cream shades with a touch of yellow.

Dark Skin

Women with dark skin are lucky, as nearly any colour works for them. Especially, white wedding dresses are recommended, which can show blue undertones. However, they should avoid ivory dresses.

Age of the Bride

Knowing the role of the skin tones, brides may also consider their age in the dress selection process. As a more mature bride or one who gets married the second time, probably does not want to accomplish an innocent and princess image, she should stay away from very feminine/girly pink and white dresses. Here it is recommended to rather opt for a more elegant and sophisticated style. Often ivory, wine, champagne, silver, or gold bridal gowns are chosen for second marriages.

Above that, also soft pastels such as mint instead of the traditional white are good alternatives. Although, purple and red look good on mature women, further darker colours such as black should be avoided. Ideally, darker colours (e.g. burgundy or navy) can be used to set accents on cream and white gowns.

Indeed, the colour of your dress should also match the wedding location. Getting married in the nature or at the beach may allow light green or blue touches on the dress. For information on wedding venues in Cheshire Click here.

Thankyou to Jacqueline for her invaluable advice. So find out your skin tone and choose your perfect colour. Alternatively just have fun trying on as many dresses as you can in different shades until you find THE one that makes you look and feel like a princess. Bye for now, Jenny.

The wedding ceremony. The bit everyone is there for, but also the bit that seems to be a somewhat of an afterthought after the dress, the flowers and the colour scheme. However, it is also the part of the day that most couples say afterwards was their favourite part of the day. The nerves beforehand disappear as they see each other for the first time and everyone else there melt into the background and all that matters is the two of them and the vows they are taking…. Love this image of Simon’s best man giving him a last bit of moral support before Jo walks up the aisle.

The photography of the morning of a wedding is often called bridal prep, well last time we checked there are two people getting married so we definitely do not like to leave the groom out.I love the banter of the boys before the wedding, the confusion of putting on a cravat, which side to put a buttonhole on (incidentally does anyone know the rule?). Today’s picture of the day show’s off Julian’s (ahem) tattoo as he prepares to marry his lovely bride. We’ve had lots of positive feedback about this image….I wonder why?
