Introducing…….Cakes By Beth….for all things cakey and yummy
Welcome to the second of our Introducing series, a regular feature showcasing the very best UK wedding suppliers. We are firm believers in choosing the highest quality suppliers who offer style, originality and a personal customer service experience that is second to none.
With that in mind it is my pleasure to introduce Beth Mottershead – owner of Cakes By Beth. I will let Beth describe her business.

Cakes By Beth makes bespoke, contemporary wedding and celebration cakes, cupcakes, favours and dessert tables.

My business has grown organically, although in recent months it has grown incredibly quickly. I have always loved baking and the decorating part is my absolute favourite bit. Certain members of my family are notoriously bad at thinking of what they want for their birthday and so I started subsidising their presents with an interesting cake. One year, I decided to create a three-dimensional cake for my brother, which received such an amazing reacton that my business really grew from there.

I started uploading images of my cakes to facebook, my friend told me to start a blog and also asked me to make her wedding cake and by the time her wedding came around the blog had turned into a website and it was all systems go.

My design style and attention to detail set me apart. I am a scientist at heart so I approach everything in a very scientfic way, which means that my cake designs are clean, contemporary and quite structural. I like to sometimes include feminine elements but nothing is too girly or frou frou. No detail is too small and if I’m not happy with something I can’t sleep until I’ve sorted it. I am my own biggest critic so nothing leaves my kitchen until I am happy with it. My aim is always to challenge myself and excel with each and every new cake. Hopefully my passion and care shows through in my cakes.

There are so many elements to cake making that I absolutely love. I love being inspired by something I see and imagining how I’ll turn it into a cake, and I also find it really exciting when you meet up with a couple for the first time and go through their ideas and plans for their big day. It’s so nice when you start off with 101 ideas but then you see them being refined until you have their dream cake. There’s the actual cake creating part, which is obviously key because that is what you spend most of your time doing, but I think my absolute favourite part has to be the handing over when it is all finished. That moment when the clients see their cake for the first time is absolutely magical and makes all the hard work more than worth it.

My number one tips for brides to be is if you have had a look around and like the style of someone’s work, meet up with them and have a chat about yuor wedding plans and what you are looking for in a particular element. if you get on with the person and feel that you are both on the same wavelength, you are more likely to trust their judgement when it comes to creating your perfect wedding item. I think a lot of brides (and probably grooms too!!) can get very stressed and worried as their big day draws near, but if you can take a step back and remember that you have hired professionals whom you trust and you know will do a good job, hopefully the stress will subside

The level of detail, passion and creativity put into these cakes is astounding. If I had all of them available to me, I wouldn’t know which one to taste first!
